Your Family Private School System Most Private schools fall into one of two categories, schools administered by the Catholic Education Office, and independent schools of other religious persuasions administered by their own boards. School fees vary from approx $1500 per year for Catholic and smaller private schools to $6-8,000 for the bigger private schools. Private schools are subsidised by the government making them more affordable to middle income groups. Public schooling is free in Australia. Private schools make up almost a third of all schools in Australia, making them a popular choice amongst Australian parents. Of the total number of private schools, the predominant Catholic sector makes up two thirds whilst the independent school sector makes up the remaining third. Private schools are generally single sex and a few offer boarding facilities. To do some further research on potential public/private schools for your
children, look at the education authority in the state you wish to move
to. These are listed at: http://www.detya.gov.au/schools/authorit.htm |
