Your Family Tertiary Education Universities There are currently 43 Australian Universities offering a diverse range of courses and degrees. Entry requirements vary depending on the field of study but for undergraduates, the final year average results score achieved in Year 12 is the determinant. Students can choose to pay fees for each year, or use a student loan system called the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS). If using the HECS scheme, students gradually pay off their education once their income has reached a certain level. HECS applies to Australian residents only and fees for foreign students are significantly higher than for residents of Australia. Further information on individual universities and colleges can be found under Australian universities. Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Courses offered at TAFE are generally vocational in nature. Although entry requirements vary, most courses require a Year 10 completion. There are also TAFE courses that are offered at degree level with the
majority being at diploma or associate diploma level. Completion at diploma
level can mean acceptance into a University. Australia-wide TAFE listings
